In reading your advice the burly Russian guy in a sweater popped into my head:

"Hello, my name is Peggy!"

One thing I used to do when researching software was to get their technical support phone number.  I would call it one minute after they opened, at lunchtime and at our closing at the end of the day and on weekends.  If I couldnt get through, I said, why buy it.  Usually something happens with software at those times.  If I got through, were they jerks or were they friendly.  I couldnt see buying something if I couldnt get help with it.  Some I called were terrible, so we never used them.

I also didnt listen to the sales person.  With one software, they were worse than a used car salesman.  They promised the software could almost dispense ice cold beer on a hot day.  I never call phone numbers they give as recommendations.  For all I know its a phoney number where someone sits around smoking and drinking and using a script.  I want to visit someone close to me that uses it. I ask to visit them and see it in action.  I ask what problems they have.  But, getting back, this may not be a software issue, it might be a coding and billing an issue.

Soooooo... one thing you want to look out for when purchasing medical billing software is to find out the extend of their technical support (sorry to go off topic a little).

Some software developers are becoming more adept at adding proocols to help prevent coding and billing errors.  many years ago, I used a software program that warned us when we coded a visit where the codes were bundled per NCCI. This was to help us code better and not waste time looking up every code to check NCCI.  It also required every visit to be audited for proper coding.  That helped when we were audited by Medicare or by the practice.

I once had to change the software we were using to include State tax with the claim.  The software developer said it couldnt be done but with trial and error, I got it done.  medisoft does have technical support but you do have to pay for it.  I dont use that software and have no clue how to use it.

How interesting!!! Another thought that came to my mind is, isn't there a Medisoft hotline or sales and customer services 800 number to call?

Not knowing the full facts, this sounds like your software is warning you about a potential coding, billing, and compliance problem.

lets say your doctor did XXXXX on 1/1/11.  XXXXX has a 90 day global period.  On 1/2/11 your doctor did YYYYY.  per global surgery rules, you cant bill YYYYY, so your software may be telling you this.  If you bill YYYYY, you maed y be paid but down the road the insurance company demands the money back and they might go back 10 years to investigate possible fraud because if youre billing YYYYY, what else are you doing??

This may be hard coded in your software and may not have the ability to be overridden.

We are using Medisoft 17 for Billing. We are having problem in transmitting claims with CPT code 31624 it shows the error message “This charge is within the global period for 31624 on 09/08/11”

We were receiving payments successfully for the above CPT and were able to send claims through Medisoft 14. Can anyone suggest how to resolve the above issue in Medisoft 17 and transmit the claim for CPT 31624.
