Time Management was of the essence.

I also had alot of work automated. We would get an ascii file from the hospital.  No manual input.  I would log into the hospital account to check insurance to see who provided it after the date of service.  Then update the account.  All charts were scanned with a high speed scanner.  All written correspondence was also scanned.  Everything was inputted up to 10 am and then starting on statements and claims from 10 am to 11 am.  Lunch is 1/2 hour at my desk or outside.  You have to make some time to be aay from it all for a short time.

On Mondays, i would run a new aging report to work during the week.

A long time ago, a secretary taught me her secret.  She said handle a piece of paper one time only,  She never had an in box and her desk was always clean. If I opened an envelope, I worked it, writing the appropriate response letter and when I had a denial, the appeal was worked right then and there.  Everything was scanned when done and notes were entered into the account.  I never used an in box.  Her advice was the best and has worked every time.  All claims and statements had to be out the door by 11am each day.  The afternoons were spent on correspondence.  All calls went to the answering machine and were returned starting at 3pm.   A program was written by a geek friend to convert phone messages to e-mail.

One thing I am not is a statistician, I dont care to compare myself to anyone but me. I dont care how much money is on the books compared to someone in Ceder Falls, Iowa.  I care about how much money I need to collect.

I leave the statistics to the doctors.  They only asked for a few end of month statistical reports.  But this was to know how to staff the ER.  But again, time management is key.  There were certain things i did on certain days and at certain times.  Fridays was provider enrollment.  From 12 to 3, every day i worked the AR.

The day could start at 5am and end at 8pm.  But every minute of the day was busy.

I averaged 450,000 per year with one client.
